Enlightenment
In my senior capstone class, I decided to design an imaginary clothing brand and fashion exhibition around my Reddit Gen 1 avatar collection: Enlightenment. I chose this because I wanted to take advantage of the position that Reddit has given me as an avatar artist in their creator program. I chose this collection because it’s my most popular and recognizable one from the collectible avatar community.
I wanted to take a unique approach to this project. I decided that since this brand will revolve around my OCs (original characters), I wanted them to be the models for this brand, so there is a combination of both illustration and graphic design in play, showcasing my artistic identity.
I referenced existing designer brand logos and noticed a lot of them play around with initials so I decided to do the same. Since the brand name is Enlightenment, I tried various configurations of the letter “E.” It was decided to go with choice 2 because it brought a friendly vibe, but needed tweaking since it lacked variation in line width.
I wanted to use a modern sans-serif typeface for the brand to give off a contemporary streetwear vibe. I also liked the colors to be simple, with the 3 primary colors being the most stand-out color within each OC.
