Reddit Collectible Avatars
The Scope:
Reddit Collectible Avatars (RCA) are digital collectibles that give Redditors on the platform unique benefits, such as standing out in the comments section, being able to mix and match with other avatars, and being traded/sold on and off Reddit.
The outcome from April 2022 to January 2026:
- Handpicked by Reddit to spearhead the program
- Created 40 unique avatar designs and sold 3000+ total avatars
- Generated $150,000+ worth of sales
- Appeared in Times Square as a billboard feature
- Created a community of over 30,000 members across Reddit, Discord, and X
How it works:
To create a Reddit Collectible Avatar, artists use Snoo, Reddit’s mascot, as a basis for their designs. Artists have considerable artistic freedom when creating their designs, but following the template is recommended to enhance mashability. Artists are also required to follow Reddit’s branding guidelines, terms of service, and the overall capabilities of the templates.
When you click “Edit Avatar” in your profile, you can see your current avatar. Mixing and matching multiple avatars creates an “avatar mashup,” showcasing the unique combinations users can create.
As the program went on, Reddit avatars experienced many evolutions, where artists pushed the limits of depicting the Snoo in extremely creative ways. These are all of the Reddit Collectible Avatars I’ve created in chronological order:
