Creature Cards TCG
The Scope:
Creature Cards is currently a work-in-progress game that combines MMORPG and TCG elements. Players explore the world of Creature Cards with their team of Creatures, which are obtained by opening card packs. As players develop their personal collection of Creatures as a collector, they will learn more about the lore of Creature Cards through campaigns, side quests, and encountering world bosses and other special events.
Responsibilities:
Creative Director: Daljit Liyal
Gameplay Designer: Damon Brinkley
Game Director: Nathaniel Brooks
Logo Development:
After a survey, it was ultimately decided that the game’s mascot would be Purrcept, a psychic cat with esper powers. The logo and overall brand identity would be shaped and modeled around Purrcept’s character design.
Rejected Logo Development:
The idea of radioactivity activating the Creatures to come to life from the trading cards is a central theme for the game. That being said, I explored typical radioactive and toxic thematics for the logo.
This idea was ultimately scrapped as the game’s audience is intended for children and young teens, not a mature audience. To lean more into the fantasy element, hand-drawn lettering was opted for the logo.
Creature Character Design:
Collaborating with the Software Engineer and Gameplay Designer, we worked on creating unique character designs. After settling on an initial sketch, I developed a turn-around character sheet with the desired colors. Then, all creatures were hand-drawn and animated in Aseprite.
With the 2.5D style of the Creatures, it was crucial to animate a front, back, left, and right side view for idling and attacking. Depending on the character design, a walk animation was also necessary.
